Robinson funded the first county courthouse, which was built in the summer of 1837 and cost $500.

Crown Point has several historic claims-to-fame. It hosted the Cobe Cup Car Race (a precursor to the Indianapolis 500), which was won by Louis Chevrolet. Also, the Lake County Courthouse became a well-known “marriage mill,” uniting record-breaking numbers of couples and famous couples such as Rudolph Valentino and Winifred DeWolfe.

Over the years, Crown Point has done well to preserve its small town heritage through it preservation of its courthouse and historic homes. Yet Crown Point continues to expand through commercial, industrial and residential development. NWI Crown Point News
